Retinal vascular remodelling in radiation retinopathy.

چکیده
A 34-year-old female developed bilateral radiation retinopathy three months after external beam radiotherapy for pituitary adenoma. The clinical symptoms, fundus abnormalities, and microvascular pathology noted on fluorescein angiography resolved spontaneously over a few months. The most dramatic aspect was the progressive improvement and partial reperfusion of the retinal capillary bed.

Irradiation of the posterior segment of the eye resulting from radiotherapy either of local ocular lesions (e.g. retinoblastoma or malignant melanoma of the choroid) or of extraocular lesions of the adjacent regions (e.g. carcinoma of the antrum and nose, rodent ulcer of the face, squamous cell carcinoma of eyelids, etc.) has been known to produce delayed retinal vascular changes which develop ...

متن کاملRadiobiological Study of Retinal Microvessel Proliferation in Diabetic-like Rat Model
Progressive evolution of retinal vascular in diabetic retinopathy leads to blindness in up to 8,000 patients yearly. The major purpose of this investigation was to determine proton radiation dose response of the eye's retinal vasculature in the hypergalactosemia induced rat model of diabetic-like retinopathy and gain insight of possible role of proton radiotherapy in controlling diabetic retino...
متن کاملChoroidoretinal neovascularisation following radon seed treatment of retinoblastoma in two patients.
Two patients who developed localised radiation retinopathy many years after brachytherapy for retinoblastoma are described. In both patients extracapsular cataract extraction and YAG laser capsulotomy were followed by preretinal and vitreous haemorrhage and in one patient there was deterioration of existing radiation retinopathy with macular oedema. Premacular and vitreous haemorrhage occurred ...
متن کاملGalectin-1 expression imprints a neurovascular phenotype in proliferative retinopathies and delineates responses to anti-VEGF
Neovascular retinopathies are leading causes of irreversible blindness. Although vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) inhibitors have been established as the mainstay of current treatment, clinical management of these diseases is still limited. As retinal impairment involves abnormal neovascularization and neuronal degeneration, we evaluated here the involvement of galectin-1 in vascular a...
